Woman denied Social Security Disability benefits for odd reason

| Dec 31, 2011 | Social Security Disability |

As we’ve detailed before on this blog, applicants are frequently frustrated by the sometimes bizarre decisions of the Social Security Administration. This is quite true with regards to Social Security disability benefits, which may be denied on grounds that seem arbitrary and capricious to many. In one case that New Jersey residents may find enlightening and especially troubling, one woman has been caught up in a battle for the benefits that she needs for years.

The woman is a grandmother who makes sure that she has time to babysit her 8-year-old grandson from time to time. Tragically, though, she suffers from constant pain due to a car crash two years ago. That accident caused her to suffer head injuries and multiple broken bones in her left leg and hip. Although the injuries have since healed, the pain she continues to suffer from has left her unable to find employment.

Considering her injuries, the woman seems like the type of person that the Social Security Disability program was designed to help. However, when she applied for benefits, she was denied. The reason given to her was that because she found time to babysit her grandson, then that meant she was able to go to work.

Fortunately, the local community has stepped in to provide the woman with the financial assistance that she requires. However, not everyone is so lucky. For New Jersey residents who are dealing with an often frustrating Social Security Administration, it may be helpful to seek legal assistance as they apply for Social Security Disability benefits.
