Assistance when navigating the Social Security Benefits process

A relatively recent post on this blog discussed whether a Newark, New Jersey, resident struggling against a drug or alcohol addiction could obtain Social Security Disability benefits, assuming that person had a separate mental disorder or other qualifying disability.

The answer to that question was a qualified "yes," qualified in the sense that the person receiving benefits may be required to go drug treatment at some point.

Yet, even though a Newark resident who has a drug addiction can qualify for benefits, it may be difficult for that person to muster the courage to talk openly about that addiction to the Social Security Administration or even to a doctor or Social Security lawyer. There is often a latent fear that the person might be judged or told that if they simply would kick their drug habit, they would be perfectly able to work and would not need disability.

At our law office, we understand that people who come to us may be from different backgrounds and may have had different life experiences, some of which they regret. We also recognize that most of the people we represent really do want to work but simply are not able to do so for one or more good reasons. As a result, we treat all of our applicants with the compassion and respect they deserve.

Although we do have to get a lot of background and medical information in order to present an effective application or appeal, we don't judge anyone based on that information. Our goal in each of our cases is to get our client whatever Social Security benefit he or she deserves.
