Visually impaired NJ residents may qualify for SSD benefits

As we discussed in our last post, New Jersey residents who have serious problems with their eyesight may be able to claim disability benefits on account of their visual impairments.

However, even for those who meet the Social Security Administration's criteria for legal blindness, filling out an application and showing that they meet the requirements for drawing disability benefits can be complicated. The applicant must prepare a lot of paperwork and must be able to document things like how much or how little they make.

Moreover, those Newark residents whose vision problems do not qualify as "blindness" under the Social Security Administration's rules have a steeper legal slope to climb since they must show how their vision problems, possibly combined with other medical problems, keep them out of the workforce.

Our law office can help New Jersey residents who are disabled by visual limitations to get the benefits they both need and legally deserve. We can assist residents with filling out their applications correctly and completely, and we can also help them compile the medical documentation and other evidence necessary to support an application. We can also help a visually impaired person appeal an unfavorable decision if necessary.

For someone already struggling with visual impairment, filing for Social Security benefits can be complicated and time-consuming. Moreover, the stakes of an application for benefits can be high, as people may well need the financial help that benefits offer in order to make ends meet. For these reasons, it is often a wise move for a person seeking benefits to get help from an experienced disability lawyer like those who work in our law office.
