Why was my Social Security disability insurance claim denied?

The paperwork and information required to file for Social Security disability insurance is substantial, and the process may seem intimidating to many in New Jersey. Adding to it the fact that you are already suffering from a condition that is preventing you from work can only add to the stress involved in the application process. But let's say you finally did it, and hit submit or dropped off the forms. And now you wait. And wait. And then, you're denied.

Although you may have believed you've dotted all your I's and crossed all your T's, you may have been denied because you dotted your T's and crossed your I's. Here are some of the more common reasons why a Social Security disability insurance claim may be denied.

If the insurance company's doctor disagrees with your claim, you may be denied and may need to seek a second opinion in an effort to verify your condition. If you are found to be lying on your claim, you will be declined. Furthermore, filing a false claim is considered a crime, and you may suffer legal penalties for falsifying a claim. If you fail to follow through on treatment for your disability, such as going through physical therapy or taking prescribed medications, the Social Security Administration may deny your claim.

Also be mindful that there are time limits for filing. If you file too late, you may be denied. Last but not least, we were serious about dotting your I's and crossing your T's. Claims that are incomplete or improperly filled out may be denied.

If you are uncertain why your claim was denied or need help in filling out the forms, you may want to seek the advice and help from a law professional familiar with Social Security disability benefits to guide you.
